Center Hosts Conversation with
Ishmael Beah and Alusine Kamara

KNOXVILLE, TN - On the evening of November 19, 2007, the Center played host to a very special event. Author and activist Ishmael Beah and rehabilitation nurse and one-time mentor to Beah, Alusine Kamara, were formally reunited for the first time to discuss their experiences with war and recovery, and to reflect on their own extraordinary relationship. This unique event was hosted by Center director Brian Barber and drew an estimated 1000 attendees from both the UT campus and from the local community.

It was also announced that Ishmeal Beah and Alusine Kamara have agreed to join the Center's Board of Advisors. The Center is thrilled to have these two dynamic advocates for youth as integral members of the Center efforts.
